On Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 12:01AM, the province of Ontario will enter Step 2 of its Reopening Ontario Roadmap. It is highly recommended to stay informed with the provincial guidance for sport as it may change regionally and impact the restrictions and allowances.

Field Hockey Ontario is providing this update to its clubs and membership to outline what sport activities are permitted during Step 2.

Under Step 2, outdoor sports training is permitted, with the following restrictions:

  • Outdoor sports leagues may commence
  • 3-metre physical distancing between all participants at all times (no close contact permitted during sport participation)
  • Activities that are likely to result in individuals coming within 3-metres of each other must not be practiced or played.
  • Maximum number of participants depends on the health region's recommendations. Clubs should confirm with the facility/venue and/or local public health unit about participant number clarification, as this may differ between facilities/venues and regions.

Sport organizations are recommended to review the Ontario Ministry’s return to play guidance, and Ontario Guidance for facilities for sports and recreational fitness activities to inform the development of their return to play plans. When there are discrepancies between these guidance documents, strict health and safety measures (e.g. highest level of mitigation possible) are recommended.

  • Sport and recreation organizations (e.g. clubs, associations, leagues, and teams) booking facilities need to work with facility owners and operators to ensure they meet all requirements that are in place for arrival, entry to environment, departure and equipment owned by the facility as per the national framework, p. 6.
  • National Frameworks - Club Risk Assessment and Mitigation Checklist (Appendix B).
  • Those participating in organized activities sanctioned by or affiliated with, a provincial or national sport organization should refer to and ensure they are also complying with their governing body’s guidelines, assuming they meet or exceed provincial requirements.
