During the week of April 19th to 23rd, 2021, Field Hockey Canada celebrated National Volunteers Week as part of their Team of Teams movement. During their celebration, Volunteers from Ontario were recognized as part of their Recognition of Excellence.

"Field Hockey Canada is proud to have a large group of volunteers that spans across the nation. We recognize that their excellence from the club, to provincial, to regional, to national and even international level, surrounds us every day and greatly contributes to our programming."

FHO would like to highlight those from Ontario who were nominated by the field hockey community and recognized by FHC as part of this week.

Brian Lee

"These nominees have served on the Outaouais Executive for a combined total of 61 years. Between them, they have held every position including Jeff Dornan as the longest-serving President. But beyond that, they have been involved in Ottawa field hockey beyond the club serving on the previous Eastern Region Board, organizing officials, and officiating in the high school leagues, CSIS, and local club leagues and tournaments. They have been involved with coaching in high schools and clubs. They can be counted on to help out with any field hockey-related task. It is all done with good humor and is inspiring to everyone who deals with them. And they are still found playing field hockey at every opportunity in Ottawa, and around the world."

Bronwyn Fleming

"Bronwyn started as a player in the club but over the years has become a valuable member of the program. She coaches, umpires, goes to meetings, and helps out where ever is needed. Thanks Bronwyn for all the work you do for the club."

Christine Hesch

"Christine is a a person who does the behind the scenes work. She has taken over the daily functioning of the club and is doing a great job. She is always there to help volunteer for things and to support where ever help is needed. Thanks Chris."

Janine LaMarre

"She is a valuable member of the club. She has: coordinated the website for the club; organizes umpires for tournaments; runs clinics for umpires; coached the competitive and rec programs, all around helper when ever something was needed to be completed. She will be missed as she starts to 'slide' into retirement."

Jeff Dornan

"These nominees have served on the Outaouais Executive for a combined total of 61 years. Between them, they have held every position including Jeff Dornan as the longest-serving President. But beyond that, they have been involved in Ottawa field hockey beyond the club serving on the previous Eastern Region Board, organizing officials, and officiating in the high school leagues, CSIS, and local club leagues and tournaments. Maureen Chopra

"Maureen has been a pillar of the field hockey community in not only Ottawa, but in Ontario for over three decades. She has coached club teams, high school teams, provincial teams, umpired countless community and competitive games in both the high school and club leagues, all while acting as a board member for the Nighthawks, working full time, and raising three kids. Maureen has contributed greatly to the success of the Nepean Nighthawks Field Hockey Club and the growth of field hockey in the region."

Ruth Hibbard

"Ruth was already running the club when I first met her. Her dedication to the program was amazing. She has run the program since 1986 and only recently stepped back from the daily activities after all these years. Her enthusiasm and dedication to the sport in this region it well known. She earned her province of Ontario 40 years of volunteer service in 2019. She has been awarded recognition in the community as well as at the high school level. Well done Ruth. WWFHC is so lucky to have had your energy for all these years."

Waterloo Women's FHC

"There are many people who do little things to keep the club running and the activities happening. Here is a collage of some that have helped in assorted ways.”
