With the cancellation of the 2021 FHC National Championships, FHO is working to provide training and identification opportunities for Ontario athletes. Costs, schedules, and exact dates have not yet been confirmed, but the initial camp dates and information provided below serve as a rough guideline. The dates and location are subject to change dependent on provincial and municipal COVID-19 regulations.

NEW DATES - Updated: June 4th, 2021:

Camp 1 - U18/U23 Women: June 29-July 1, 2021 (hotel check-in on June 28 and check out on July 1)

Camp 2 - U16 Girls: July 2-4, 2021 (hotel check-in on July 1 and check out on July 4)

Camps are expected to be held in the Town of Ajax at an outdoor turf facility. All participants will be required to stay at the host hotel and will be divided into smaller groups that comply with COVID-19 regulations and procedures. All participants will be required to have a current FHO membership.

This form is not a confirmation of participation or registration. It is a tool to allow FHO to effectively estimate the resources required based on interest level in order to plan and prepare for registration. Registration for the camp will begin at a later date. The link to the Expression of Interest form is as follows: The Expression of Interest Form has closed.

The form closes on Friday, March 26th, 2021.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Talent Identification Camp?

Talent Identification Camps are programs that are designed to identify young athletes with the potential for success in senior elite sport. This camp will connect athletes with training, development, and competitive opportunities that are designed to maximize an athletes’ potential to achieve success. At the conclusion of the camp, FHO will be able to share with FHC the top athletes in Ontario.

Who is eligible to attend the Talent Identification Camp?

FHO's Talent Identification Camp is open to all male and female athletes from U23 down to U16 age groups. The camp will focus on identifying and further developing athletes who already have foundational skills in the game rather than focus on teaching skills.

UPDATE: FHO’s ID Camps in June/July will be for U23 Women, U18 Women, and U16 Girls. Based on the responses to the Expression of Interest form and from conversations with Field Hockey Canada, FHO will not be hosting a Boys Talent ID Camp in June/July as FHO and FHC will be hosting a joint ID Camp later this summer. FHO and FHC will re-evaluate after this camp for future Talent ID Camps.

What sessions will occur during the camp?

FHO's Talent Identification Camp is a high-performance camp that will entail several on-field sessions per day with a focus on identifying and further developing athletes who already have foundational skills in the game.

What are the goals of holding a Talent Identification Camp?

  • To create an open and fair talent identification program that is accessible to all our member athletes.
  • To increase the number of opportunities available to our athletes, whether it be through competition or some other development initiative.
  • To increase the number of Ontario athletes on the National Team.

Will coaches or staff from Field Hockey Canada be in attendance?

FHO is working with Field Hockey Canada (FHC) to have their staff in attendance for the identification camps. We are aware that the coaches for Canada's national team (both male and female) will not be able to attend the camp as they will be in Tokyo for the Olympic Games.

Is there a limit to the number of athletes that can attend?

Yes, registration will be first come first serve due to the field capacity and group size limits set forth by the government's COVID-19 restrictions.

What is the cost of attending the ID camp?

At this time, the cost of attending the camp is unknown as it will be impacted by the number of athletes we are able to host in each age group. This number is consistently changing due to the province's COVID-19 restrictions.

Why do athletes need to stay in the hotel?

All athletes must stay in the hotel for the duration of the camp as FHO will be creating a bubble.
