Congratulations to AOS Goderich Field Hockey for receiving a 2020 FHO Schools Grant!

This FHO club is working to grow field hockey in Goderich and the surrounding region, and with the Schools Grant, they hope to extend their reach and introduce the sport to more young athletes. AOS Goderich has identified a number of obstacles field hockey currently faces in their community, including low male participation, few opportunities for athletes to play the sport before high school, and parent participation, particularly on a coaching level. They would like to see more young athletes, especially boys, learning of and participating in field hockey programming on a more regular basis.

To address these challenges and grow their reach, the club plans to use their Schools Grant to provide an indoor program out of a local high school that will transition to outdoors in the spring and summer.  This program will target grade 5, 6, 7, and 8 students in order to introduce more young athletes to field hockey before they reach high school, where many learn of the sport for the first time.

Their plans don't stop there, however! The club will be making visits to schools beginning in March, as well as including an introductory "Try-Night" on their schedule. With the help of the club, field hockey has been added to their region's secondary school curriculum through the addition of a physical education unit that is geared towards grade 11 boys.

Thank you AOS Goderich for your continued efforts to grow the sport of field hockey and inspire so many young athletes. We can't wait to see your programs in action!
