The WISE (Women in Sport Encouragement) Fund, created by CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity) is a grant to help organizations increase their capacity to deliver quality programs and services for girls and women.  Organizations who are planning an initiative (new or existing) intended to provide opportunities for girls and women to participate in sport and/or intended to promote sport to girls and women can apply for a WISE Fund grant.

This year, Field Hockey Ontario is proud to announce, the Kingston Field Hockey Club has received a WISE Fund grant.

The Kingston Field Hockey Club offers programming for a broad spectrum of females, ranging from ages 13-50. Recognizing a need to grow the sport of field hockey in the Kingston area, they have begun to target younger girls with several key initiatives. In the past two years they have introduced a U14 Learn to Play program, as well as a U16 Train to Train program. A Train to Train indoor hockey program is also being offered this year for the first time. The WISE fund will primarily go towards expanding programming for girls aged 18 and under. Programs they would like to develop in the future include: U12 Fundamentals, U14 Learn to Train, and U16 Train to Train. The fund will also help with the expense of turf rentals, junior sized field hockey sticks and competition entry fees.

Kingston's only field hockey club was started summer of 2012.  They run summer and fall outdoor leagues, an indoor league in the winter and a regional U18 team in the spring. Lots of opportunity to improve skills through technical sessions, games and tournaments, not to mention creating a fun and competitive community! All ages and levels are welcome.
